Date: Fri, 10 Jul 2009 22:09:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Robert A. Eikel Subject: The Fourteenth Annual Fortieth of July. Thirteen years ago, in the humble provincial town of Somerville, a new phenomenon was discovered. Three friends stumbled upon it, unplanned and unsought. Its first manifestations were simple, just some beef patties, large bottles of beer, and an occasional watermelon. Over time it grew, drew revelers from across the country and even from foreign lands, kindled lifelong romances, befuddled liquor store owners in several states, diversified into novel forms of alcohol and cooked meat, transplanted itself south of the Mason-Dixon line, and became a legend in its own time. The Fortieth of July. You are invited to be a part of the latest manifestation of this mysteriously potent event. Bring your liver, a hearty appetite, and possibly your swim trunks. We will drink. We will eat. We will award world championships. We will loudly proclaim our superiority to Canada and any other countries we can find on a map, barbecue like our lives depended on it - and they do - and drink our fill and more of sweet, sweet malt liquor, the netcar of the gods.
