From: Robert Eikel Subject: The Fortieth of July: Double Digits Nine years ago, in the humble provincial town of Somerville, a phenomenon was born. It began simply, with a few friends and few large bottles of beer. Over time it grew, embraced the Internet revolution, impelled cross-country journeys, caused projectile vomiting, acquired a wading pool, occasionally donned t-shirts, kindled romances, kindled large fires, transported questionably legal quantities of alcohol across and within state lines, ran out of beer repeatedly, passed out occasionally, and became a legend in its own time. The Fortieth of July. You are invited to partake of history in the making as the Fortieth celebrates its tenth year, after which it will be impossible to count them all on our fingers, forcing us to deploy other digits or appendages. We will thrill to the musical stylings of Max-Funk-Institut, gasp in awe at the biochemical prowess of Rob Hagan's thesis, loudly proclaim our superiority to Canada and any other countries we can find on a map, barbecue like our lives depended on it - and they do - and drink our fill and more of sweet, sweet malt liguor, the netcar of the gods. Be there or be tiny.
